My lunatic friends and me went over to see the showcase of Karl Cromok, the guitarist legends of Cromok; the most inspiring metal band i've ever heard. I've been a big a fan since my school days and I love most of their songs. The comeback of Karl after 14 years of absence are the most waited by his fans.
Yesterday during the showcase he shared his stories and some tips on how to play the melody the Cromok ways. But the amazing moments is when they start jamming a few songs from previous albums. With a new line up like Shah (guitarist), Effa (bassist) if im not mistaken and Zali (drummer), the roars the song hell.
As said by Karl his new solo album will be released somewhere in June 2010. Sadly, we can't hear out the new solo song from his new album. A bit frustrated I guess but it's always good to see Karl back.So here I note down a bit of histories of Cromok which they started when they were still studying in Australia. Cromok is a thrash metal band from Malaysia. They are known to be an otai band (where the term otai refers to old-timers or pioneers) of thrash metal music.
Their song structures are characterised by very simple riffs and minimalist drumming overlaid with complex guitar solos.Sam, Karl, Miji and Din were Malaysian students studying at the University of Wollongong, in Australia, where they decided to form a thrash metal band. While in Australia (as a three piece band), Cromok went on to achieve a steady following and a large fanbase[citation needed], and eventually returned to Malaysia. Din died becouse of Denggi Fever in 1996, but the band continued as a trio.In 2005, Sam announced that they were going on hiatus and that all band activities are suspended.
